30 Years

16 January 2014 - Stylus celebrates its 30th Anniversary!

The 16th January 2014 was the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Stylus Stationers.

In 1984, Stylus commenced trading from a back-room in a private house in Honley Road Catford SE6 but subsequently moved into the 2-story office building next door, formally Eagle Star Insurance, when it became available a few years later.

In 1998, Stylus moved it's growing operation to a brand-new and purpose-built business unit on the Greenwich Centre Business Park in London SE10, just a short walk from the historic centre of Greenwich, the river Thames and the famous Cutty Sark.

The world has changed enormously in 30 years but at Stylus we always strive to offer the same reliable and friendly personal service that we did back in 1984.

2012 Brand changes - a fresh new look for an exciting year!

Two well-known brands at Stylus have had a makeover for 2012.

Our top-selling Report A4 paper ( Stylus code: 9003 ) has now been renamed Report Premiumalthough the quality and environmental credentials of this this excellent and highly popular paper remain the same. Report Premium paper is made from 100% sustainable eucalyptus wood fibers which make it an attractive alternative for environmentally aware customers who have been tempted to simply buy recycled paper up until now.

Also new for 2012, our 5 Star brand packaging has been given a new identity to keep it fresh and to reflect the ever changing world around us. The new packaging is designed not only to ensure that our products arrive safely with you but also to clearly highlight the features and benefits to help you to select the product that is right for you, faster. With clearer re-order codes too, we make it easier for you to swiftly place your next order.

Important Announcement - April 2010: Cut-sheet Paper Shortages and Price Increases

There is currently an acute market shortage of many cut-sheet papers such as Stylus 'Economy' A4 paper, product code 9004.

The cut-sheet paper market has been adversely affected by a number of factors during the first quarter of 2010 including:

  • The economic downturn (paper production is decreasing as mills have closed down)
  • The exchange rate (the Pound has weakened considerably against the Euro over the past 3 years. All cut-sheet papers are now imported as they are no longer manufactured in the UK)
  • The cost and availability of raw materials (paper pulp prices have risen)
  • Consolidation of the manufacturing base (6 manufacturers are now responsible for 88% of the world's supply of cut paper whereas in the year 2000 there were 10 manufacturers responsible for 70% of the world's supply)

These factors are having an impact on a worldwide basis. To date Stylus has managed to maintain supply on most products and as such have been better placed than many of our competitors because we source our supplies from a variety of different paper merchants but this problem is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

All of our suppliers have raised their prices and, with great reluctance, we have had no choice but to raise ours in turn.

At time of writing it is possible that there could be further price rises in cut-paper and paper products, such as envelopes, during 2010.

Yes
